da bet7: The January transfer window offers new Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl his first opportunity to begin rebuilding the Saints squad in his image.
da casino: The south coast club have obvious issues to address in the market, and good business now could ensure that they aren’t dragged into a desperate scrap for survival until the end of the season.
What’s the word?
Hasenhuttl will have already identified that his side’s attacking contingent lacks pace. The likes of Danny Ings, Charlie Austin and Manolo Gabbiadini lack the necessary speed to pose a great deal of threat on the counter-attack.

The German coach should look to bolster his ranks with a pacy forward in January. The perfect man to bring to St Mary’s Stadium to fill that role is a player whose pace has already terrorised the Southampton defence this season.
In January, Southampton ought to launch a surprise move for Cardiff City winger Josh Murphy.
The missing piece of the puzzle
When the newly-promoted Welsh outfit beat the Saints in December, Murphy ran riot against Southampton’s young full-back, Yan Valery.
The 23-year-old’s pace, directness and confidence constantly caused problems for the Saints’ defence and Valery simply could not handle the former England under-20 international.
Hasenhuttl should be inspired by this performance and seek to make Murphy his own. The Bluebirds’ attacker would bring all the attributes that the Southampton forward line is currently lacking.
Cardiff may well be reluctant to sell, but Southampton could have enough financial firepower to prise Murphy away from Neil Warnock’s squad.
