da bet esporte: You’d need to have been living under a rock for the last year if you’re somehow not aware of Crystal Palace’s woeful striking crisis right now, such is the significance of it. The Eagles are yet to see a recognised senior striker score a goal for them so far this season, and the January window is going to be huge if they are to survive yet again.
What’s the word, then?
Christian Benteke. Jordan Ayew. Alexander Sorloth. Connor Wickham. Zero league goals between them. Zero goals between all of them in all competitions if you exclude Sorloth’s solitary League Cup effort. Considering that strike force cost around £50m (somehow), that’s really not good enough in all honesty.
Roy Hodgson is also not seeing others step up to the plate. Wilfried Zaha is the club’s top scorer with three league goals, whereas Luka Milivojevic and Jeffrey Schlupp are closely behind him on two each. That’s sadly as good as it gets for the south London side – they absolutely must dip into the chequebook in the Winter window.
Who could they get?
Presently, I think anyone could improve the current strike force at Selhurst Park. Even I could put in a better shift than Ayew. In all seriousness, however, if Palace were to do a bit of scouting for a player who has began the season well, Montpellier’s Gaetan Laborde wouldn’t be a bad shout.
The French forward already have seven Ligue 1 goals in just 14 starts so far this season, as well as an assist. He also has two Europa League goals in just one start, making him one of the best goalscorers in Europe at this stage of the campaign.

The 24-year-old is a forward who excels in the air, even in spite of his 5′ 9″ frame thanks to the timing of his jumps and his movement. That low centre of gravity also helps him to dribble past opponents to great effect, whilst his finishing has always been an eye-catching part of his game.
Yet to reach his prime as well, he could be an exceptionally shrewd signing for the Eagles.
