da bet7k: Aston Villa ace Jack Grealish has admitted he was disappointed not to seal a move to join Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, according to The Telegraph.
What’s the word?
Jack Grealish’s name took up plenty of space in the back pages of the gossip columns during the summer as the midfielder was regularly linked with a move away from Aston Villa to join Tottenham Hotspur, a switch which ultimately did not materialise.
The 23-year-old has since signed a new five-year deal at Villa Park to stay with Steve Bruce’s promotion contenders but his latest comments may open a new chapter in the saga concerning his future, as he made a bold claim to The Telegraph.
Grealish has stated he believes he would have been handed an opportunity to play for England by Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate had he completed a proposed £25m switch in the summer, and he has also made his plans for the future clear.
What was said?
“Of course there’s going to be disappointment there. They’ve beaten Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford, they’re playing Barcelona in the Champions League next week.
“I felt that if I’d gone there I could have maybe been in the England squad by the end of the year. At the start of the season my head was swivelled, it was all over the place. Even after the transfer window closed, until the end of August, I wasn’t right.
“I thought I was leaving. Before the new owners, Villa needed the money so I kind of accepted that me going would save the club.
“It’s not like I was devastated it didn’t happen, though, because I’ve still got to realise how lucky I am to be playing for my boyhood club. I’ve played over 100 games for Villa and I’ve only just turned 23.”
What does this mean?
Buckle up Villa fans, the rollercoaster ride on Grealish’s future is set to continue. Realistically though, there is nothing that Grealish has said that is surprising and he actually comes across very well in his interview – which is always good to see.

Clearly, Grealish harbours aspirations beyond the Championship and dreams of represent his national side as well as playing in the Champions League. Once again though, that isn’t surprising and it has been on the cards for a while.
The key, however, is that this adds further pressure upon Aston Villa to secure promotion this year as a departure at the end of the season would surely take place if Steve Bruce’s side failed to return to the Premier League, despite the fact he’s only recently signed a long-term deal.
