Wirtz will soon join Liverpool and could break the Premier League's record for the highest transfer fee, as the Reds are set to pay £100 million ($135.7m) with £16 million ($21.7m) in add-ons to Bayer Leverkusen. However, his soon-to-be team-mate Elliott believes that Chelsea star and his former England Under-21 co-star, Palmer, has the edge over the German.

While Wirtz will almost certainly join Elliott at the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby for pre-season, it is highly likely that the latter will not be a Reds player for much longer. Ironically, Wirtz's arrival will force him through the exit, as the out-of-favour midfielder is linked with a departure having said he does not want to warm the bench. Aston Villa are believed to be interested in signing him this summer.

The German international's move has been in the works for some time, and Liverpool believe that they will be able to finalise the deal this week. Wirtz's move will eclipse the fee Chelsea paid Brighton for Moises Caicedo in 2023, which has held the title of being the Premier League's most costly transfer.
