England manager Roy Hodgson has admitted that John Terry is a doubt for their home game with Ukraine on Tuesday night after the defender continued to play with an injury during the second half of a 5-0 win in Moldova.
Terry was eventually sacrificed with two minutes to go after England had made all three changes in a basic victory over a poor Moldova side. However, Hodgson has admitted that Terry should probably have been brought off earlier.
“He’s a warrior, though, so he poo-pooed the idea he should come off with 20 minutes to go.” Hodgson told the Sun
“He took a kick on the ankle in the first half and then twisted it slightly when he landed in front of the bench in the second half. They are assessing him.”
“It’s not a very serious injury but every knock is important with only three days between games.”
“The injury wasn’t due to his warrior status or recklessness.”
“He knows his body after all these years and he felt it wasn’t as big a problem as we feared.”
